How is my English?

Thanks to all of my lang-8 friends.

Today I want to ask you two questions.

First, how is my English?

I always worry that my friends feel embarrassed or sometimes feel disgusted because of my unskillful English.

If my article is too long for you to correct, I’ll try to shorten my diary or divide my article into parts.

And if there are times you can’t figure out what I want to say, I’ll rewrite(write again) my English diary by using Japanese words(Of course I’ll improve my English skills by studying hard!)

And second, what do you want to know about from my diary?

I can write articles about Japanese culture, medical topics, or other things.

Of course I’ll often write what I want to write, but I want to express a gratitude to you too.

Don’t hesitate to ask me.

I’ll do whatever I can.

And when the time comes ,when you come to Japan, I’ll help you by going sightseeing in Tokyo.
From last diary,I got a message about "you should also tell us about how Japanese incorporate 気(Qi) into their daily thinking and actions"

It is little difficult to explain but I’ll explain that.

Before I talk it,why not putting your hand very close(not touch but put close) in front of your face.

Do you feel something from your face?

I think you have might have felt some moisture between your hand and your face.

Japanese consider the feeling Qi(気).(How do you think why massage is effective?

Japanese think the effect is caused by pouring Qi into their body from a massager’s hands.)

Many of Japanese think Qi is a energy which exists in a living thing.

And Japanese believe some special man has a special Qi.(It is very similar like talent to some extent.

All of us have talent to some extent, but the type and level of our talents differs.)

And some aikido masters show big power as though they are very thin(like Shioda).

So many Japanese consider aikido masters having special Qi.

And Aikido master admit that they get special Qi from a hard aikido training because they don’t want to tell the mechanism of how to use big power.

My master often tells me "The secret is strong until you reveal it.

Oh I have betrayed my master, will you keep it a secret?

That’s all thank you for your reading.

I’m afraid you might feel that this article is incomprehensible.

If so, don’t hesitate to ask me at the comment box.

What is ki(気)?

I’ll now explain the secret of Ki(気).

But I’m afraid you may be very disappointed after learning the secret.

It is very similar to when you know the secret of a magic trick.

You may think "what a trivial magic that is!"

Whether or not, reading this article is up to you. Don’ be shocked by the truth!

OK?

Before you read my diary, why not compare these movie? There are some common feature.

A cheetah

Do you detect the common feature?

The movie A is a running cheetah.

The movie B is Shioda’s fighting(You shold watch at the time 2:34~.

The scene shows a feature very clearly.)

The mechanism of ki is when you put forth, not only you use a part of your muscle but also you use your muscle with other part.

You see when cheetah run, their back muscle moves with their feet muscle.

Muscle is the only organ to be able to put forth.

So if you want to put out big force, you should have big muscle.

Some ordinary people train a part of their muscle.

Certainly it is very reasonable to use big force.

But in the case of Aikido, Aikido’s masters not train a part of muscle but they connect all of their muscle(Consequently the mass become very big.)

And practice how to use all parts of muscles.

For example, when you lift something you will use only your arm muscle.

But Aikido master use their back muscle with their arm muscle(In the movie B, 2:34~scene shows the feature very clearly.)

Of course if you know the secret, you can’t be the same person like Shioda.

Shioda had endured very hard training and if you want to use your all muscle, some special traing is needed(So there are a lot of people who go dojo.)

And then I wonder why human has retrograded at the point of how to use their body.

Animals still know how to use their body.

I think there are a lot of things we have to learn from animal.

(In my next diary, I’ll explain why Aikido masters call the mechanism ki(気).)
I’m really sorry for not writing a diary entry.

I finished my rotating in the department of hematology last week. (This sentence is fine, but in American medicine we just call them "doing rotations")

Now I’m in the department of respiratory medicine.

Everyday I have a lot of work, such as writing clinical records. (like and such as are both ok. Example: I have a lot of work, things like writing clinical records. I have a lot of work, such as writing clinical records.)

My only relieving time is talking with my patients. (This is fine too, but I feel like I would say "My only solace is the time I spend talking with my patients.)

As a matter of fact, the reason being idle to write a diary is fatigue caused by playing Aikido. (I’m not really sure, but do you "play" Aikido or "practice" it?)

I haven’t played it for half a year.

My entire body is experiencing muscle pain from this Sunday!!

Physical strength is very easy to decrease.

I’ll write about ki power next!

Give me a little more time, I know you will be happy.

Aikido

Today,I went to my college dojo (a hall used for martial arts training) and practiced Aikido.

Aikido is one of many Japanese martial arts.

It is difficult for me to explain what is different from other Japanese martial arts like Judo and Karate.

So as the quote goes "Seeing is believing", why not watch this movie?

The man in the movie is Gozo Shioda, a Japanese master of aikido.

*Shioda was a small man, standing at around 5’ 1" to 5’ 2" (155–157 cm) and weighing around 102 lb to 108 lb(46–49 kg).

When the movie was taken he was 47 years old! ("photographed" is for still images [i.e. photos], we "take" movies [a series of images, yes, but moving, therefore: taken.)

But he is truly strong.

Many people are fascinated by shioda’s technique.(Of course I am.)

How does he have such strong power even though he is very old and small?

It is because Shioda has special power.

It is often called 気(ki).

Do you know what ki is?

To tell the truth, a lot of aikido players don’t understand the true meaning of ki.(And also, not all people who train aikido can use ki.

You need some talents and a good master.

They don’t have medical knowledge so they can’t explain what is happening in their body when they use ki.(And of course, there are some aikido masters who know but don’t explain the meaning of ki. There are business reasons.)

But I have medical knowledge so I can understand it.

’ll explain it from a medical point of view in my next diary. ("Point of view" is sort of a set phrase in English, so any modifiers to that phrase, like "medical" in this case, go before it.)

My pet Polka

Today I’ll introduce my pet.

Her name is Polka.

She is a Maltese.

She is only 6 months old.

She always gives me kisses when I wake up in the morning and when I get home from school.

But, she bites me when I brush her stomach gently.

I think she must be strange.

I can’t stop loving her.

Pets always make me very relieved.

By the way, I helped with Polka’s birth.

Her mother is my pet too.(The mother’s name is Chao.I’ll introduce her someday.)

Although I am a human medical student, I managed to help with my dog’s birth.

At that time,I felt as if I were an animal doctor.

To tell the truth, her mother(Chao) managed to birth almost all by herself.

Mothers’ and nature power are great, aren’t they?

If you have kept pets, will you tell me what kind of animal you have kept.
After doctor’s hospital rounds, I asked the attending physician why he scolded the leukemia patient.

He said "Do you know what the most important thing to cure patients?"

I said "No."

He told me that it was whether or not patients have the will to live.

For example, if you want to be thin, you need to exercise or closely regulate your food intake.

Simply hoping to be thin won’t make you thin.

Practice is needed.

And tough mind is also needed for you to continue persevering.

The same thing can be said for that leukemia patient.

In the near future, he will suffer more severe side effects because of his chemotherapy(anti cancer drug therapy).

Then, if he doesn’t have the will to live,it will be very difficult for him to persevere through his chemotherapy.

This was the reason attending physician said such a severe thing to a patient.

More than anyone, he hopes that his patients will have a strong will to get through their treatments and go on to live the rest of their lives.
This week, I’ve been studying at my university’s department of hematology(blood medicine).

Attending physician said "Since you’ve joined our team, let’s treat a patient with leukemia (white blood cell disease) this week."

So attending physician and I went to see the leukemia patient.

And I told the patient, "I’ll be your attending doctor from now on. Nice to meet you."

After a short while, the patient began to cry.

The patient said he couldn’t endure more anti cancer drug therapy and he wanted to give up.

The moment the patient spoke, my teaching doctor scolded him and told him he shouldn’t cry.

Why did my attending physician scold the leukemia patient?

There is an important meaning..

To be continued in my next diary.
On 2010/11/27,Yotuba&I’s latest volume 10 will be sold in Japan.

I’m very very very looking foward to reading it.

I can’t wait for it to be released.

If you read the Volume 10 in Japanese,I will help to translate.

When the time comes,Please call me!!!
